Lakers Score Six Runs In Sixth Inning To Close Out 5-0 Weekend

Box Score ROSEMONT, Ill.—The GVSU softball team capped off the Lewis Dome Tournament with a, 7-0, victory against Winona State on Saturday morning.
 
The Lakers (5-0) scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the final game of the weekend out of reach.
 
Jenna Ballard and Megan Koenigshof hit back-to-back RBI singles to push the Laker lead to, 3-0, before Kaitlin Lynch singled in Koenigshof and Alex McCullough, who came in to run for Ballard. Lynch's single gave GVSU a, 5-0, lead. Morgan Wagner capped off the inning with a two-run single, driving in Joanna Cirrincione and Lynch.
 
GVSU got out to a quick lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. Wagner drove in Cirrincione with an RBI double to put the Lakers up, 1-0, after the first frame.
 
Hannah Beatus started in the circle for the Lakers and threw seven scoreless innings. Beatus gave up five hits and struck out nine batters.
 
GVSU outscored its five opponents at the Lewis Dome Tournament, 29-4, to win its first five games of the season.
