ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the fourth time in her career
Maddy Champagne has earned the GLIAC women's lacrosse offensive player of the week, as announced by the league office early today.
In the 14-12 season opening victory over Flagler, Champagne was an integral part of the offense, as she scored five goals and dished out two assists, one of which led to the eventual game-winning goal. She also picked up three groundballs, caused two turnovers, and grabbed three draw controls in the win.
In the Saturday game against Rollins, she found the back of the net three more times and picked up seven more groundballs. On the weekend, Champagne scored eight goals on 16 shots, dished out two assists, and fielded 10 groundballs.
The two-time All-GLIAC honoree and reigning IWLCA Second-Team All-Region member previously won the Player of the Week award three times during her freshman campaign in Allendale.
GVSU will return to action next week as they travel out to Colorado to play Colorado-Mesa on Friday, March 3
rd, followed by a game against Regis that Sunday.
