GVSU Men And Women Continue To Lead The Way At GLIAC S&D Championships

Day 3 GLIAC Results

The Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued to dominate at the 2023 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships being held at the Holland Aquatic Center. Heading into the final day Saturday, the Laker women have 742.5 points, 99.5 ahead of Wayne State, while the Laker men have a three-day total of 672 points, 261.5 ahead of Wayne State in second. The GVSU men are in search of a ninth consecutive GLIAC Championship, while the Laker women are going for a fourth title since 2017.
 
Women 
Freshman Lucy Hedley continued her stellar freshman season with a GLIAC Championship meet record and the GVSU freshman record when she touched first in the 500 free (4:50.80). Senior Emma Bliss finished seventh (5:03.47), freshman Katie O'Connell ninth (5:03.07), Kayley Gallagher 11th (5:06.72) and Tina Winter 12th (5:07.85). 
 
Freshman Angelica Angilletta finished fifth in the 100 back (57.05), while senior Rebecca Farber touched ninth (57.12) and Melina De Cort 10th (57.62). 
 
Junior Alysa Wager captured the GLIAC title in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.57, just ahead of GVSU senior Delaney Wihebrink (1:03.76). Senior Dayna Borregard finished eighth (1:06.53) and freshman Liv Geiger ninth (1:05.08)
 
Freshman Gaia Tomaselli finished third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.58, while senior Bianca Licari touched sixth (2:05.35) and junior Sarah Puscas seventh (2:07.72). 
 
The Lakers dominated diving once again, taking six of the top nine spots. Sophomore Maddie Kooistra placed second (448.65), followed by senior Gracyn Segard in third with a score of 423.95. Senior Nicole Carlson placed sixth (399.75), Jess McEachern seventh (380.10), Samantha Plough eighth (360.05) and Carissa Wooley ninth (385.55). 
 
Men
Junior Eric Hieber continued his GLIAC dominance in the freestyle with his third consecutive title in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:29.76. Hieber also has three titles in the 1000 free and two in the 1650 free for eight total individual titles in his career. Austin Millard touched fourth (4:31.80), Matt Bosch seventh (4:36.36) and Jesse Goodyear finished eighth (4:37.39). 
 
Senior Roger Miret Sala tied for second in the 100 back, touching the wall in 48.39, while sophomore Aaron Dies finished seventh (49.32), sophomore Brennan Neitzel ninth (50.22) and sophomore Thomas Zoldowski 10th (50.23). 
 
Senior Keegan Hawkins finished ninth and hit the NCAA B cut in the 100 breast with a time of 55.51. 
 
Sophomore Jon Kantzenbach claimed the GLIAC Championship in the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.70, while Will Herwig placed sixth (1:50.42), Markus Kruse ninth (1:49.84) and Kyle Raskay 13th (1:52.05). 
 
The Lakers' 800 free relay team of Austin Millard, Keegan Hawkins, Eric Hieber and Roger Miret Sala set a GLIAC meet record with a time of 6:32.78, breaking the previous record of 6:34.45 that had stood since 2014.
