Grand Valley State Claims Their 22nd and 21st Consecutive Regional Title

EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Grand Valley State Lakers swept the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Champions in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday, November 4th. The Lakers claimed the regional title on both the men's and women's sides, securing themselves a guaranteed spot in the NCAA Division II National Championships in Joplin, Missouri on November 18th

The women's squad brought home their 22nd consecutive Midwest Regional title, recording an overall score of 28 points as the dominated the Top 10. The Laker women added to their victorious performance as they earned six First-Team All-Region honors on the day. 
 
The Lakers finished with six of their seven runners within the Top 10, led by Natalie Graber who claimed third with a new personal best time of 20:09.17. Klaudia O'Malley and Ana Tucker finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth, both recording personal-best times of 20:15.32 (O'Malley) and 20:28.71 (Tucker). 
 
Kayce Rypma, Abby Vanderkooi and Allie Arnsman rounded out the Lakers showing in the Top 10, claiming seventh, ninth and tenth place. In addition, all three ladies recorded new personal-best times of 20:37.26 (Rypma), 20:43.02 (Vanderkooi) and 20:47.27 (Arnsman). 
 
The men's team claimed their 21st consecutive NCAA Midwest Regional title finishing with an overall team score of 48 points, followed by Lewis (104 pts) and Saginaw Valley (112 pts). In addition, the Laker men earned four First-Team All-Region honors and two Second-Team All-Region honors on the day. 
 
Brock Wooderson, Cal Yackin, Koby Fraaza and Caleb Futter formed "a sea of blue" for the Grand Valley State Lakers as they remained a tight pack throughout the men's 10k, claiming sixth through ninth overall. 
 
The four runners all crossed the finish line within a one-second span, Wooderson leading the pack in sixth place with a time of 31:10.34, followed by Yackin (31:10.35), Fraaza (31:10.37) and Futter (31:10.65). Andrew Hylen rounded out the Lakers Top 5 scoring, finishing in 18th with a time of 31:19.67. 
 
Grand Valley State will take a weekend off before heading to Joplin, Missouri on November 18th to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
