Men's Golf In The Top Five At Copperhead Championships

PALM HARBOR, FLA. – The GVSU men's golf team kicked off their final tournament of the fall season at the Copperhead Championship down in the Sunshine State. After the first two rounds of play, the Lakers are in fourth place among a field containing 10 top-25 teams, including seven in the top 10.
 
Results
 
Lee leads the tournament at four under through two rounds, shooting two rounds of 282. Host West Florida is two strokes back after rounds of 280 and 286. Tampa is in third at two over, carding rounds of 281 and 289, followed by the Lakers in fourth at five over, as they had rounds of 290 and 283. Rounding out the first five is Florida Southern, who are one stroke back of GVSU, shooting rounds of 291 and 283.
 
Charlie Cooley paces the Lakers, sitting in a tie for fifth at two under, shooting rounds of 71 and 69. Cooley made four birdies in round one and two more in the second round. Nick Krueger is in a tie for 15th at even par, making 10 birdies over his rounds of 75 and 67. In a tie for 23rd is Manuel Cue Vargas at two over, carding rounds of 71 and 73 with three birdies and an eagle. After rounds of 73 and 74, Drew Coble is tied for 42nd with a score five over, making two birdies in each round. Alex Jordan is tied for 88th, scoring +18 after rounds of 85 and 75, sinking three birdies.
 
The Lakers close out the event tomorrow with the final round of play, teeing off at 8:30 in the morning.
