ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 7 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is back at home this weekend for a pair of GLIAC games. On Friday, the top two teams in the GLIAC standings will face off as the Lakers welcome No. 23 and undefeated Northern Michigan under the lights at 7:00 PM. On Sunday, GVSU will take on Michigan Tech at 12:00 PM. 
 
The Lakers went 2-0 last weekend to improve their record to 5-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the GLIAC. GVSU defeated Parkside 2-1 on Friday on a late go-ahead goal in the 84' minute. The Lakers dominated possession and outshot the Rangers 28-10, 16-4 on goal. Ryann Fetty notched her second goal of the season off assists from Cate Brown and Stephanie Sturgeon. Kennedy Metzger scored the game-winning goal off a great pass from Kennedy Bearden for her second goal of the season. 
 
On Sunday, GVSU defeated Purdue Northwest 8-0 that saw three Lakers score multiple goals. The Lakers defensively did not allow Purdue Northwest to get off one single shot attempt, dominating the shots category 34-0, 15-0 on goal. Taylor Reid, Kennedy Bearden, and Mackenzie Jones each scored twice, while Bearden dished out two assists and Jones added one assist. Freshman Sophia Morgan netted her first collegiate goal in the win.
 
Mackenzie Jones was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Jones was dominant defensively in both games, disrupting passes and coming up with key takeaways to prevent scoring chances. The junior also notched two goals and assist in the win over Purdue Northwest. 
 
The Lakers enter the weekend outscoring their opponents 19-6 and have out shot their opponents 148-70. Kennedy Bearden leads the team with four goals and five assists for thirteen points which is tied for third in the GLIAC. Taylor Reid also has four goals on the season and is second on the team with nine points. Goalkeeper Kendall Robertson has started in all eight games for the Lakers. Robertson ranks second in the GLIAC with 28 saves, .824 save percentage, and a 0.81 goals-against average. 
 
Northern Michigan enters Friday's match ranked number 23 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll and sit at the top of the GLIAC standings with a 4-0 record, 7-0-1 overall. The Wildcats have been dominant offensively, ranking second in the country with 4.0 goals per game, 3.25 assists per game, and 11.25 points per game. Northern Michigan has outscored their opponents 32-6. Last weekend, the Wildcats defeated Ferris State 3-1 and Saginaw Valley State 4-1 at home. 
 
Sophomore Brooke Pietila has led the charge for Northern Michigan with a GLIAC-best six goals and six assists for 18 points. Pietila is coming off back-to-back GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week performances. Sophomore Justina L'Esperance has contributed six and 13 points for the Wildcats. L'Esperance earned back-to-back GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors in the first two weeks of the season. Senior goalkeeper Shenae Kreps has started in all eight games, making 13 saves and a 0.89 goal-against average.
 
Michigan Tech will face Davenport on the road on Friday before coming to Allendale on Sunday. The Huskies enter the weekend 3-4-1 overall, 1-2-1 in the GLIAC. The Huskies last weekend played to a scoreless draw against Saginaw Valley State and lost to Ferris State 1-0 at home.
 
Senior Neve Badalow and freshman Alyvia Sanom lead the Huskies with two goals and four points. Senior Stephanie Yeager has notched a goal and two assists for four points. Yeager leads the Huskies with 13 shots, seven on goal. Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde has started in all eight games making 23 saves which ranks fourth in the GLIAC.
