ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to play in the NCAA Tournament when they host Cedarville in the opening round on Thursday, November 20
th at 3:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers are making their 22
nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance. GVSU has posted a 66-12-9 record in the NCAA Tournament.
GVSU earned the one seed in the Midwest Region and will host the first two rounds this weekend. The Lakers enter the NCAA Tournament with a 19-2 overall record having won their last 10 matches. GVSU claimed the GLIAC tournament championship last weekend going 3-0 and defeating Saginaw Valley State 1-0 in the championship.
On the season, the Lakers have outscored their opponents 50-9 and have produced 13 shutouts. The Lakers rank eighth in the country with a 0.429 goals-against average and five with 53 total assists. Goalkeeper
Macie Hunter is fourth in the country with 12 shutouts this season and second in the country with a 0.286 goals-against average.
Forward
Sarah Fromm leads the Lakers with nine goals, 21 points, and four game-winning goals this season. Fromm ranked second in the conference in goals and points, earning All-GLIAC first team honors for the first time in her career. Forward
Alli French is second on the team with seven goal and 18 points. French scored two goals in the semifinal win against Northern Michigan and earned All-GLIAC first team and All-Tournament team honors. Midfielder
Sonya Mehta has also notched 18 points on the season. Mehta leads the team with eight assists and has scored five goals with one game-winning goal. Defenders
Kacy Lauer and
Mackenzie Ford have posted a career best 17 points this season. Lauer was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and has scored six goals with five assists. Ford earned All-GLIAC second team honors and has notched five goals with seven assists.
GVSU and Cedarville played each other back in September in the second game of the season. The Lakers defeated the Yellow Jackets 3-2 on the road. GVSU leads the all-time series 5-0 over Cedarville with one win coming in the first round of the NCAA Tournament back in 2021.
Cedarville enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-3-5 overall record. The Yellow Jackets finished in second place in the GMAC standings with a 9-1-4 conference mark. Cedarville has outscored their opponents 39-11 this season. Ella Webb leads Cedarville in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Webb leads the Yellow Jackets with three game-winning goals and 31 shots. Audrey Stanley leads Cedarville with four assists while adding three goals for 10 points. Goalkeeper Kaelen Swallow has appeared in 12 games making nine starts. Swallow has posted a 7-2-2 record in goal making 32 saves with a 0.842 save percentage.
