ALLENDALE, Mich. – Junior midfielder Mackenzie Jones was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office today. Jones has earned her first GLIAC defensive player of the week honors after helping lead the Lakers to a pair of GLIAC wins against Parkside and Purdue Northwest last weekend. 
 
The junior was dominant defensively in the two games, disrupting passes and coming up with key takeaways in the midfield to prevent scoring chances. The Laker defense did not allow Purdue Northwest to get off a single shot attempt in the 8-0 win on Sunday and held Parkside to just 10 shot attempts in the 2-1 win on Friday. Jones also netted her first two goals of the season and dished out an assist in the win over Purdue Northwest.
 
The Lakers return home this weekend as they host Northern Michigan Friday night at 7:00 pm in a battle for first place in the GLIAC standings. On Sunday, GVSU will host Michigan Tech at 12:00 pm.
