Nick Krueger Wins 111th Michigan Amateur Championship

BATH, Mich. - Nick Krueger, of Grand Valley State University, won the 111th Michigan Amateur Championships in Bath, Mich. at the Hawk Hollow Golf Course on Friday, July 1, 2022. Krueger entered match play ranked 22nd after two rounds of stroke play.  Results 

Krueger started match play of strong winning his first match at 6 up and his second match at 7 up. In the round of 16, he won 4 up to move on to the quarterfinals which he won at 5 up. In the semifinals, Krueger won 1 up over August Meekhof from Michigan State. The final match against Patrick Deardorff, of Eastern Michigan, was a fight to the finish as Krueger tied the match in the 18th hole. 

Krueger started the round at 1up with a birdie on the first hole. Deardroff then tied the match on the fourth hole and went 1 up on the sixth. Krueger took the lead back on the 9th as Deardroff scored a double bogey.

The men entered the back nine with Krueger growing his lead to 2 up on 11th hole. Deardroff tied the match on the 14th and took the lead back on the 15th at 1 up. In the final hole of the match, Krueger fought to hold on and scored a birdie to tie the match. The athletes made their way back to the par-four first hole where Krueger took the hole and became the 111th Michigan Amateur Champion. 

Grand Valley State teammate, Charles DeLong shared medalist honors with Michigan State's ,Bradley Smithson, scoring 134 (-8) after two rounds of stroke play.
