Box Score SANDUSKY, Ohio – No. 20 Grand Valley State softball fell in the GLIAC Tournament championship game, 6-1, to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Sunday (May 8) at Sports Force Parks. The Lakers are now 40-6 on the season and will await their seeding in the NCAA Midwest Regional, which will be announced Monday (May 9) at 10 AM.
Three unearned runs scored in the top of the first inning to put GVSU in an early hole. A four-base error started the game with a run for the Cardinals, then a pair of two-out singles through the infield allowed two more runners, both of whom reached on walks, to cross the plate.
The Lakers loaded the bases in the second with one out, but a grounder hit towards second base allowed the Cardinals to come home for the force on a bang-bang play before a full-speed running catch in center field ended the threat. The Lakers would get their lone run on a two-out, RBI single from
Lydia Goble in the seventh after SVSU used a three-run fifth to pull out of reach.
