Lakers Advance to NCAA DII Championships

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - For the fourth-time in program history, the Grand Valley State men's golf team has advanced to the NCAA DII Championships. The Lakers finished second at the Central/Midwest Regionals on Saturday, May 7th at the Purgatory Golf Club in a sudden death playoff against Central Missouri. Central Missouri tied Grand Valley in the final round with a final score of +20 (884). The Lakers tied their programs highest finish ever at the Regionals set in 2008. 
Advancing to the NCAA DII Championships with the Lakers and Central Missouri will be third-place Arkansas Tech, fourth-place Indianapolis, and tied for fifth Missouri-St. Louis and Findlay.

Team Scores 

Charles DeLong won the individual NCAA DII Men's Golf Regional Championship title in a playoff round against Oliver Mast of Indianapolis. DeLong shot even-par on the 16th-hole while Mast shot one-over par. DeLong is one of only three Laker men in program history to have won the individual regional championship. In the first round he tallied five birdies and ended the round scoring three-under par (69). In the second round he added four birdies to his card scoring one-under par (71). Combined with his final round score of +3 (75), DeLong's 54-hole score was 215 (-1). 

Drew Coble placed tied for 16th carding 221 (+5). Coble tallied seven birdies throughout the 54-holes to stay within the top-20. Nick Krueger finished tied for 21st carding 223 (+7), followed by Eric Nunn tied for 51st carding 228 (+12), and Tanner Moore tied for 86th scoring +21 (237). 

The NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships will be played on May 16-20 at the TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan.
