GVSU Baseball set to begin four-game series at Wayne State

Defeated the Warriors 7-4 earlier in the season in Florida.

DETROIT – The Grand Valley State baseball team is set to begin a four-game series at Wayne State starting Thursday (April 14) 3:00 pm. The full series schedule will be as follows:
 
Game one: Thursday 3:00 pm (9-innings)
Game two: Friday 1:00 pm (7-innings)
Game three: Friday 4:00 pm (9-innings)
Game four: Saturday 1:00 pm (9-innings)
 
The two teams have already met once this season in Florida during both team's spring break trip. GVSU came out on top with a 7-4 victory. Trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom half of the seventh, GVSU notched four runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Lakers tacked on two more runs in the eighth off a Kyle Nott 2-RBI double. Christian Faust went 3-5 with two RBIs, while Nott hit 2-4 with three RBI's and a run scored. Spencer Nelson batted 2-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Mark Scannell got the start in that game and tossed 6.2 innings allowing four runs off seven hits. Ben Thomas earned the win after pitching one scoreless relief inning. Nick Shaw earned his second save of the year. 
 
The Lakers are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Purdue Northwest on Tuesday (April 12), winning game one 10-7, and game two 9-6. Between the two games, the Lakers produced 19 runs off 25 hits. GVSU improved to 21-9 overall, 4-2 in the GLIAC. Nathan Logan leads the GLIAC with a .413 batting average, along with six home runs and 14 doubles. Christian Faust leads the team in runs batted in (37) and runs scored (37), while hitting .358 in his senior campaign. The offense as a team is clubbing a .297 batting average.
 
The Laker pitching staff has notched a 4.14 team era. Senior Nick Shaw leads the GLIAC with seven saves and is second on the team in strikeouts (30) in just 14.1 innings pitched. Austin Brown and Nick Rutkowski lead the starting rotation. Brown posts a 3-1 record with a 3.74 and a team leading 42 strikeouts. Rutkowski posts a 2-2 record with 3.09 era and 27 strikeouts. Redshirt freshman Collin Bradley leads the GLIAC with five wins on the season. Bradley is 5-1 in seven appearances posting a 1.31 era and 25 strikeouts. 
 
Wayne State enters the series in first place in the GLIAC with an 8-2 record, 21-8 overall. The Warriors are led by senior Noah Miller who is batting .359 at the plate with nine doubles, a home run, and 17 runs batted in. Graduate Hunter DeLanoy leads Wayne State in hits (33), runs scored (30), and runs batted in (26). The pitching staff has notched a 3.70 team. Senior Ryan Korolden leads the GLIAC with a 1.49 era in 36.1 innings pitched. Korolden posts a 4-1 record in five starts this season and has racked up 31 strikeouts.
