GVSU Men 13th After Day 1 At NCAA Swim & Dive Championships

Day 1 Results

The Grand Valley State men are 13th at the 2022 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships with 31 team points. The second day of competition will begin with 10 am prelims Thursday (March 10).

Sophomore Eric Hieber got the Lakers on the board first with a sixth-place finish in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 9:08.57. Freshman Jon Kantzenbach added a 14th-place finish giving the Lakers 16 team point in the event. Sophomore Diver Cyrus Irwin finished seventh on the 1-meter board with a score of 422.90, while Wrigley Fields finished 14th (384.95) and George Peuhl finished 18th (348.85). Keegan Hawkins finished 20th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.22, followed by Roger Miret Sala who touched 1:50.40. The 200 free relay team of Oscar Saura-Armengol, Matt Bosch, Aaron Dies and Austin Millard finished 20th in a time of 1:21.58. 

Samantha Laurich finished 39th in the 200 IM (2:07.43), while Bianca Licari finished 36th in the 1000 free (10:33.68). The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of Melina DeCort, Delaney Wihebrink, Samantha Laurich and Bianca Licari finished just missed scoring with a 17-place finish (1:44.88). The 200 free relay team of Wihebrink, DeCort, Licari and Laurich touched the wall 19th in a time of 1:38.33.
