Lakers Finish Second in Season Opener

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Grand Valley State men's golf team opened their season with a second-place finish at the Bell Collegiate on March 15 at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club hosted by Hillsdale. The Lakers held on to their second place spot from Day One shooting a 301 in the third and final round on Day Two. The Lakers ended the tournament carding 887 (+23), Sandhills Community College placed first with 878 (+14). The Lakers led the 54-hole tournament in eagles with four. 

Charles DeLong started the day in second-place at four-under par. In the front nine, he shot an eagle on a par five 537-yard sixth-hole but was set back by a bogey on the seventh hole. DeLong shot par on 12 holes in the third round scoring a 76, bringing his overall three round total to 216 (E). He shot par on 37 of 54 holes and had two eagles, the most pars and eagles of any golfer. Nick Kruger tied for fourth shooting one-under par in the third round, and notched an eagle on a par four 340-yard ninth-hole. He also shot four birdies throughout the second day and had a three round total of nine birdies. Krueger ends the tournament carding 218 (+2). 

Drew Coble notched one birdie in the back nine of the final round and ended the day at 10-over par (226) tied for 16th. Eric Nunn dropped one spot from Day One, finishing 20th carding 227 (+11). Tanner Moore finished T44 scoring +78 in his final round bringing his two day total to 239 (+23). Individually, Alex Jordan moved up to tie for 41st and led amongst those competing individually, carding 22-over par (238). 

The Lakers will next compete at the Findlay Spring Invitational on March 28 - 29 in Lexington, Kentucky at the UK Big Blue Golf Course.
