GVSU Men Remain First At GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

Day 2 Results

The Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded day two at the 2022 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championship at Saginaw Valley State. The Laker men are in first place with 480 points, while the GVSU women are third with 367 points. Wayne State is first (405.5) and Northern Michigan second (394.5). Sunday's prelims will begin at 10 am and finals are slated for 5:30 pm. 
 
The GVSU men tallied two individual titles and won the 400 medley relay. Freshman Matt Bosch claimed his first GLIAC crown and hit the NCAA B cut with his first-place finish in 1:37.88. Junior Roger Miret Sala finished third (1:38.92) and freshman Austin Millard touched fourth (1:39.75), both hitting the NCAA B cut. Sophomore Eric Hieber touched the wall seventh (1:40.30), senior Cade Vruggink 10th (1:40.83) and senior Daniel Mullen 11th (1:41.57). 
 
Senior Keegan Hawkins backed up his Friday title in the 200 IM with the 400 IM crown (3:50.96) and hit the NCAA B cut, while sophomore Matthew Lane finished fifth (3:58.55) and also hit the NCAA B cut. Freshman Thomas Zoldowski touched 10th (4:02.40), junior Evan Dies 11th (4:04.85) and junior Austin Cabel 14th(4:08.34). 
 
Senior Oscar Saura-Armengol finished second in the 100 fly (47.34) and hit the NCAA B cut, while freshman Will Herwig touched 10th (50.09), freshman Aaron Dies 12th (50.85) and freshman Matt Bosch 15th (51.76). 
 
The Lakers' 400 medley relay team of Roger Miret Sala, Keegan Hawkins, Oscar Saura-Armengol and Matt Bosch hit the wall first (3:14.27) and hit the NCAA B cut.
 
Senior Samantha Laurich, fresh off her title Friday in the 200 IM, touched the wall first in the 400 IM (4:22.34) and hit the NCAA B cut. It marked the second consecutive year that Laurich swept the 200 and 400 IM events. Junior Dayna Borregard finished fifth in the 400 IM (4:33.93), senior Charlotte Brereton touched ninth (4:36.37), Kayley Gallagher 13th (4:42.74) and sophomore Veronica Lantz 15th (4:45.16). 
 
Junior Rebecca Farber finished fourth (1:52.27) and hit the NCAA B, while junior Kelly Peasley finished 10th(1:54.17), Tina Winter 13th (1:55.19) and Samantha Weigel 15th (1:55.58).
 
Junior Bianca Licari finished ninth in the 100 fly (57.36) and junior Claire Meeuwsen was 15th (59.33). The Lakers 400 medley relay team of Peasley, Delaney Wihebrink, Sarah Puscas and Farber finished fourth (3:51.29).
 
Junior Gracyn Segard, the 2021 NCAA DII Diver of the Year, remained undefeated in GLIAC Championship competition when she defended her title on the 3-meter board with a score of 502.55. Freshman Madison Kooistra finished third (438.25), sophomore Jessica McEachern seventh (395.15) and Nicole Carlson 11th(358.55).
