The Game - #1 Grand Valley State will host #5 Ferris State in NCAA DII Quarterfinal action Saturday (Dec 3) at Lubbers Stadium. The Super Region 3 final is set for a 1:00 pm kickoff. 

THE SERIES
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Ferris State by a 30-22-1 margin. The Lakers have won 17-of-the-last-28 meetings between the schools. GVSU is 16-10-1 at Top Taggart Field versus the Bulldogs and 14-12 at Lubbers Stadium. GVSU holds a 13-8 advantage when either team or both are ranked since 2001.  

LAST WEEK
#1 Grand Valley State claimed a 13-8 NCAA DII Second-Round victory over #8 NW Missouri State. GVSU rushed for 200 yards against the top-ranked rushing defense in the country, including a game-high 98 yards by junior RB Tariq Reid and 78 from QB Cade Peterson. Peterson passed for 194 yards and Jahdae Walker hauled in three catches for 87 yards. Nyzier Fourqurean set a GVSU single-game playoff record with three interceptions, while Abe Swanson tallied a game-high 11 tackles. The Laker defense limited NWMST to 53 rushing yards.  

• Grand Valley State has now been ranked #1 in the country for 93 weeks, which is 33 more than any other Division II team in the country. The Lakers are 85-6 as the top-ranked team in the country.

• GVSU has limited its opponents to 767 rushing yards on 308 attempts (2.5 ypc). 252 of those 767 rushing yards have come on eight carries. GVSU has yielded 515 yards on 300 carries (1.7 ypc) outside of those eight rushing attempts. 

• The Lakers have forced 56 three-and-out drives...Held opponents to 106 drives that have consisted of six plays or less...Limited opponents to 72 drives that have produced 12 yards or less.

• The Lakers have allowed two teams, SVSU (106 yds. reached on the last play of the game with a 9-yard run) & Davenport (115 yds.) to reach the 100-yard rushing mark. 

 • Grand Valley State leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing 10.1 points per game. The GVSU defense has allowed six rushing and seven passing TDs in 12 games.

• GVSU opponents are averaging 14.0 first downs per game, with four squads (Lincoln-9; WSU-9; NMU-7; MTU-8) being held under 10. The Lakers are averaging 22.6 first downs per game.

• The Laker defense ranks 3rd nationally in rushing yards allowed per game (63.9), while the rushing offense is eighth nationally (237.7). 

• GVSU leads the nation in scoring defense (10.1) and ranks 10th  nationally in scoring offense (39.3). 

• The Lakers rank 11th nationally in total offense (460.7) and 12th in total defense (267.2).   

• 18 different receivers have caught a pass, while 16 different players have at least one rush.

• The Laker defense ranks 6th nationally in third-down conversion defense (.253).

• The GVSU defensive line has and 68 QB hurries, 49.5 tackles for loss (-211) and 25.0 QB sacks (-154).  

• GVSU ranks 9th nationally in offensive first downs (273) and 23rd in defensive first downs allowed (169). 

• The Lakers' redzone offense ranks 24th nationally with a .869 conversion rate, while the defense ranks 4th nationally (.600).
 
• GVSU ranks 20th nationally in net yards per punt (37.5).  

• The GVSU offense is 52-for-60 in red zone scores, 47 of which have resulted in a touchdown. Laker opponents are 12-for-20 in redzone opportunities with seven TDs and five made field goals.
