• #6 Grand Valley State (2-0) will hit the road for a non-conference contest at #21 Ashland (0-1). GVSU is coming off a 56-14 victory over West Texas A&M, while the Eagles dropped a 34-24 decision to Indiana (Pa.).

• Head coach Scott Wooster is in his fourth year at the helm of the GVSU football program, sporting a record of 31-7. Wooster has led the Lakers to two playoff appearances and a GLIAC Championship. 

• Ashland is coached by fourth-year head coach Doug Geiser (28-11). Geiser has led the Eagles to a pair of playoff appearances in his three years at the helm.

• Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Ashland by an 18-6 margin, however, Ashland is 4-2 in its last six meetings versus the Lakers. Ashland won consecutive meetings in the series in 2014-15, but GVSU claimed a 45-28 victory in a 2015 first-round NCAA Playoff game. Ashland claimed a 34-31 home win over the Lakers in 2017 with a field goal on the final play of the game, but  GVSU came back with a 20-17 victory over the Eagles in 2018. Ashland won the last meeting in the series in 2019 by a 20-17 score with a Hail Mary on the final play of the game. Grand Valley State won 14 consecutive games (1993-2014) in the series prior to Ashland's 37-14 2014 win over GVSU in Allendale.

• The Grand Valley State starting defense has yielded just 10 points (Charleston) in two games. West Texas A&M scored a defensive TD and an offensive TD with under three minutes left in the Lakers' 56-14 win. 

• GVSU has yielded just 184 rushing yards in two games (73.5 ypg). Opponents are averaging 2.8 ypr. 

• The Laker defense has yielded just 30 first downs in two games, including just eight on the ground. 

• The Laker defense has limited their first two opponents to (possession end in punt or turnover):

• The Laker offense has been efficient in gaining first downs and retaining possession of the ball.

• Senior WR Kellen Reed has hit the 1,000 career receiving mark (1,280) on 69 catches. Reed has 17 career receiving TDs and four KO return TDs. In addition, Reed now has 2,817 all-purpose yards.

• Sophomore QB Andrew Schuster hit the 3,000 yard career passing mark (3,088) in his 13th game. Schuster has completed 211-of-328 passes (64.3) with 30 TDs.

• Sophomore running back Kellen Russell-Dixon tallied career highs in attempts (19), yards (144) and touchdowns (2) vs. West Texas A&M. 

• Junior QB Brady Drogosh is second on the team in rushing yards with 17 carries for 158 yards and one TD in two games this season.

• Senior LB Jimmy Downs has 134 career tackles entering tonight's game.

• SS Troy Temple leads GVSU in tackles with 12 and interceptions with two. Temple recorded nine tackles and picked off two passes in the Lakers' 556-14 victory over West Texas A&M.
