ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team captured four major GLIAC conference awards and placed eight on the All-GLIAC teams for the 2022 season. The awards were announced today (Nov. 3) by the conference.
Junior forward
Taylor Reid was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team. Reid appeared. In all 19 matches making 18 starts on the season. She notched 11 goals and dished out two assists for 24 points this season. Reid posted three multi-goal games and scored three game-winning goals. She was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week when she scored a goal in a win over Northern Michigan and the game-winning goal against Michigan Tech. Reid becomes the 10
th Laker to be named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Senior defender
Cate Brown has earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team. Brown led a suffocating Laker defense that has surrendered just 11 goals in conference play. She was a major contributor to nine total shutouts and has notched a goal and five assists on the season. Brown led all Laker field players with 1,390 minutes played including seven complete games. thLaker to earn GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Robertson was named GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and All-GLIAC Second Team. Robertson started all 19 games in goal for the Lakers this season. She has recorded six shutouts and three combined shutouts on the year making 44 saves. Robertson posted a .786 save percentage and a 0.68 goals-against average. She was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts to open the season against Missouri S&T and Maryville. Robertson is now the 2
ndLaker to be named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Head Coach
Katie Hultin was named GLIAC Coach of the Year in her first season under the helm of the Laker program. Hultin guided the team to a 17
th GLIAC Regular Season Championship in program history with a 10-1-3 GLIAC mark. Hultin becomes the fifth head coach in Laker history to earn the GLIAC Coach of the Year award.
Senior forward
Kennedy Bearden and junior midfielder
Mackenzie Jones were named to the All-GLIAC First Team. Bearden notched 12 goals and dished out seven assists for 31 points on the season ranking first in the GLIAC in all those categories. Jones posted three goals and two assists for eight points this season. Jones was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after her defensive efforts in a pair of conference wins over Parkside and Purdue Northwest.
Sophomore midfielders
Nina Ferraro and
Ryann Fetty earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors. Ferraro has notched three goals and two assists for eight points this season, while Fetty has posted two goals and four assists for eight points on the year. Sophomore defender
Stephanie Sturgeon was name All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. Sturgeon has dished out four assists from her primary defensive position.
The Lakers clinched the GLIAC Regular Season Championship with a 10-1-3 GLIAC record. GVSU is amid a quest for a GLIAC Tournament Championship and are currently ranked first in the Midwest Region. The Lakers will host the final four in the GLIAC Tournament beginning tomorrow (Nov. 4) at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers will face Ferris State in the semifinals match at 6:00 PM.
