FINDLAY, OHIO – The Grand Valley women's golf team orchestrated a fantastic comeback to win the William Beall Fall Classic. Coming into the day, the Lakers were nine strokes back of Findlay, but the Lakers shot their best round of golf of the season and overtook the Oilers to win their first tournament of the season. To top it off,
Olivia Stoll put together a record-setting performance over the final 18 holes, shooting a 66, which tied the school record for an 18-hole score.
"It was a great team win to take down the defending national champs on their home turf after losing to them on our home turf last week," said head coach
Rebecca Mailloux. "The girls fought hard today and played with such confident. We got an amazing performance and individual win from Olivia today."
GVSU's score of 296 (+8) was their lowest round of the season, and they finished the tournament at +34, three strokes ahead of second-place Findlay. The host Oilers were at +37 to take second, Indianapolis took third at +45, followed by Missouri-St. Louis (+46) in fourth, and Tiffin (+67) in fifth.
Stoll put together a fantastic last round of play, carding a 66 (-6) with eight birdies. Stoll jumped up from second place early in the round and never looked back, claiming her first career collegiate victory by three strokes.
Paula Badino (+10) finished ninth after a round of 72, notching three birdies on the day.
Megan Miron was tied for 15
th, after a two-birdie round of 76 today, ending the tournament at +15.
Julia Sanchez also earned a top-20 finish, coming in at 19
th (+17), shooting an 82 today with one birdie.
