ALLENDALE, MICH. – Mattie McCabe has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season, announced by the league office Monday (Oct. 31). This is the first Player of the Week honor of McCabe's career.
 
The senior middle blocker was a force defensively for the Lakers this past week, totaling 16 blocks over the three games this week. McCabe had one solo block and six block assists in the win over Davenport on Tuesday, then had three block assists against Ferris State, and closed out the week with one solo block, five block assists, and a dig in the win over Lake Superior State. McCabe also provided a spark offensively as well, as she totaled 21 kills this weekend, including a tying a career-high with 10 kills in the match against Lake Superior State.

GVSU closes out the regular season this weekend, with matches against Wayne State and Saginaw Valley. The match against Wayne State will be senior night, as McCabe will be one the Lakers being honored.
