LOUISVILLE, KY. – Grand Valley State brought home a first and third place finish in the Gold Division races after competing in the Live in Lou XC Classic in Louisville, KY. on Saturday, Oct. 1
st.
The Laker men earned a first place finish scoring a total of 104 points ending with five runners in the Top 50. GVSU placed ahead of a number of NCAA Division I programs including Miami Univ. (3
rd), Cincinnati (4
th), Eastern Michigan (5
th), Louisville (10
th) and Auburn (12
th), outscoring them by 40 plus points.
Senior,
Tanner Chada pulled ahead of the men's pack roughly around the 14-minute mark, to take home his second victory of the season, finishing in first place with new personal-best 8k time of 23:18.1.
Koby Fraaza and
Andrew Hylen finished back to back with a two second difference in times earning fifteenth (Fraaza) and sixteenth (Hylen) overall.
Brock Wooderson (26
th) and
Scott Spaanstra (46
th) were the final two Lakers to finish in the Top 50 helping GVSU secure their first place finish.
Tanner Chada stated, "The whole team ran really well this year, defiantly one of our favorite races to come to. We tend to run a lot more strength courses, so this is kind of one of those days where that first mile gets out real hard and it's nice to kind of get the legs rolling."
The Laker women brought home a third place finish with five runners in the Top 50, scoring a total of 132 points, falling shortly behind NCAA Division I programs; Furman (44 points) and West Virginia (92 points).
Junior,
Natalie Graber was the first Laker to complete the 5k on the women's side coming in at a time of 16:52.5, earning herself a sixth place finish on the day. Following behind Graber was
Lauren Kiley who crossed the finish line in thirteenth with a time of 17:00.1,
Klaudia O'Malley (35
th) with a time of 17:25.1,
Taryn Chapko (38
th) in a time of 17:26.1 and
Abby Vanderkooi (41
st) finishing with a time of 17:29.0.
In the Blue Division, GVSU earned another first (men) and third (women) place finish with a combined total of eight runners in the Top 50.
Daniel Lambert was first to finish for the Lakers with a time of 24:25.2 earning a sixth place finish overall,
Nicholas Hoffman also finished in the Top 10 coming in ninth crossing the line at 24:32.4. On the women's side,
Sarah May and
Landyn Howell finished back to back coming in twelfth (May) and thirteenth (Howell) with a 2 second difference in finishing times.
The Grand Valley State Lakers head to Peoria, Illi. to compete in the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, Oct. 14
