BAY CITY Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team finished third at the end of the two day 2021 Watrous Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State at The Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course in Bay City, Mich. Findlay took first carding 563 (-13), followed by SVSU 572 (-4) and GVSU in third at 574 (-2).
Nick Krueger led the Lakers on day two after the day with three birdies in the front nine, and an eagle on a par five 500-yard hole. Krueger started the day at even par and was tied for 15th, but was able to come back and finish tied for second with a score of 140 (-4).
Charles DeLong made the top 10 finishing tied for eighth at -2 (142). DeLong had two birdies for the day keeping his score at bay from day one.
"We certainly have some room to grow," said head coach
Gary Bissell. "We will learn from this event and keep moving forward."
Drew Coble placed tied for 19th carding +1 (145) at the end of day two. Coble notched six birdies throughout the invitational finishing third for the Lakers.
Alex Jordan finished at 147 (+3) with a birdie on hole 10 , followed by an eagle on a 541-yard par 5 hole.
Cooper Bell tied for 46th with one birdie in the front nine on day two and scoring 149 (+5).
The Laker men will next compete at the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational in Findlay, Ohio on Sept. 20 – 21 at the Findlay Country Club hosted by the University of Findlay.
