Following the Grand Valley State men's and women's dominance at the 2021 GLIAC Outdoor Championships,
Calvin Hatcher and
Justin Scavarda earned athlete of the meet honors while the coaching staff was celebrated for their success this year. Hatcher captured the Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet while Scavarda earned the Field Athlete of the Meet.
Calvin Hatcher had his first taste of GLIAC action last week and added 12 points to the team's 300.50 point first-place performance. The Laker freshman collected a couple fourth-place finishes in the 100m (10.79) and 200m (21.64) and helped lead the 4x100m relay team to a runner-up finish of 41.14 seconds. Hatcher's 12 points made him the program's second-leading scorer of the meet.
After being named the GLIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year,
Justin Scavarda capped off his GLIAC Outdoor career with a team-leading 20-point performance in the field. Scavarda swept the discus field with a distance of 54.33m while earning a pair of fourth-place marks in the shot put (17.59m) and hammer throw (60.71m). The Laker senior helped lead the team to its third consecutive title with his top-five finishes.
The Grand Valley State coaches captured the men's and women's Coaching Staff of the Year title following the program's third GLIAC Outdoor Championship sweep on Friday. The women captured the crown with 248 points and 10 first-place and second-place finishes, each, and three other podium stances. The men posted a whopping 300.50 points thanks to nine first-place marks and 13 other podium finishes.
