No. 8 GVSU travels to Northern Michigan for weekend series

Lakers and Wildcats enter the game as the last two unbeaten GLIAC teams

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team travels to the upper peninsula for a pair of games against Northern Michigan this Friday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (12 p.m.).  The Lakers (3-0) and Wildcats (4-0) each boast a perfect conference record and six wins on the season.
 
The weekend matchup will see the top-2 scorers in the league faceoff in Emily Renfrew (30 goals) and Maddy Champagne (28 goals).  Overall, GVSU scores an average of 16.29 goals per game, compared to Northern Michigan's 15.56 average. 
 
In the net, Cam Stilson is the No. 2 saves leader in the GLIAC with 67, while Payton Neil stands atop the leaderboard in save percentage (55.4), goals against (29) and goals against average (5.37).  Molly Bursinger and Sophie Conroy post the most caused turnovers in the conference with 11 each. 
 
Last Saturday, GVSU handed Davenport their first loss of the season, with a 15-13 decision on Senior Day.  For the fourth game of the year, at least four players recorded multiple goals with Champagne and Conroy leading the pack and netting four apiece.    
 
GVSU leads the all-time matchup, having grabbed all five wins against the Wildcats.  Each game saw the Lakers post a double-digit margin of victory while also holding Northern Michigan to single digits, including three or fewer goals in four out of five games.
