Grand Valley State closed out the 2021 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday (Mar. 20) in Birmingham, Alabama. The Laker women equaled a program-best fifth-place finish with 250 points. Queens University won the title with 695 points. GVSU has recorded seven top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships since 2009. The GVSU men finished eighth with 210 points and have now finished among the top 10 six times since 2009. Queens University also won the men's title with 551 points.
Women
Neta Shiff earned All-America honors in the 1650 free when she hit the wall in 16:44.32, while
Sarah Puscas finished 14
th in a time of 17:01.10.
Melina De Cort finished sixth in the 200 back when she hit the wall in 1:59.02 to earn All-America honors.
Delaney Wihebrink finished 11
th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.13, while
Samantha Laurich touched 16
thin 2:18.37.
GVSU closed the night finishing 12
th in the 400 free relay when
Emma Bliss,
Delaney Wihebrink,
Melina De Cort and
Rebecca Farber hit the wall in 3:28.42.
Men
Freshman
Eric Hieber earned All-America honors with his third-place finish in the 1650 free, while
Jesse Goodyear also earned All-America honors with his eighth-place finish in 15:31.51.
Keegan Hawkins finished 12
th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:00.17.
Roger Miret Sala finished 18
th in the 200 back
Chris Kelly earned All-America honors on the 1-meter board with a score of 454.75, followed by
Wrigley Fields who finished 11
th with 441.85.
The Lakers finished the 2021 championships finishing 10
th in the 400 free relay.
