No. 11 Lakers open season with 21-3 decision over Tiffin

Four players net multiple goals

Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team posted a dominant season-opening win over Tiffin, 21-3, on Sunday (Feb. 28).  Four different players netted multiple goals in the double-digit win.
 
Tiffin jumped out on top first, with Elle Hamilton scoring the first goal of the game within the first 2:30.  Despite allowing one more goal from Hamilton, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run to close out the half.  Maddy Champagne, Kate DeYoung and Olivia Esposito each found the back of the net three times heading into the half. 
 
The Lakers and Dragons exchanged one goal apiece at the start of the second half before GVSU took full control.  Esposito, DeYoung and Champagne accounted for four second half goals, while Maggie Hammer finished off a hat trick with 3:59 to play and caused four turnovers.  Goalkeeper Abigail Dengler began the season with a save percentage of .500 and three saves. 
 
GVSU will host No. 9 Indianapolis on March 20.  Last season, the Lakers fell to the Greyhounds, 14-11, to start the season.
