TIFFIN, Ohio – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team opens the long-awaited 2021 season on the road at Tiffin on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.  GVSU last competed on March 5, 2020 which capped off their 3-1 shortened season.

In the most recent meeting between the Lakers and Dragons, the Lakers ruled victorious with a 12-9 decision, improving their overall meeting record to six wins and one loss.

The Lakers retain their starting midfield line, including Molly Bursinger, Sophie Conroy, Olivia Esposito and Maggie Hammer.  Esposito, the team's returning leading scorer with 11 nets, was named a U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American in December.  In the net, Audrey Maloney returns for her sophomore campaign after posting a 9.15 goals against average and a 3-1 record.  Graduate student Anna Gritter collected five ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Laker defense last season.

GVSU headlines the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll, as released by the office on Wednesday (Feb. 24).  Of the current members, the Lakers are the only team to boast a regular season or tournament championship.

Head coach Mackenzie Lawler enters her third season at the helm of the program with a total of 17 wins and five losses.  Lawler is joined by staff returnees, Nora Boerger, Emma DeYoung and Dominique Hamman.
