The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers are set to return to GLIAC action this weekend as they host the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday (Oct. 22) at 4:00 PM before traveling across town to play the Davenport Panthers Sunday (Oct. 24) morning at 11:00 AM. Friday's penultimate home regular-season game will air on ESPN3.

GVSU escaped with a pair of late winners last weekend, scoring tiebreakers inside the final two minutes of regulation to beat Saginaw Valley, 3-2, and Northern Michigan, 4-3, to move to 12-0-1 on the season and remain alone in first place in the conference.
Â
Greta DeLoach earned both GLIAC and United Soccer Coaches national player of the week honors for her efforts with four goals and an assist in the two games, assisting on Friday's winner before scoring the winner Sunday. She has now scored in six straight games, amassing 10 goals in that span, to lead the GLIAC and rank third in Division II with 15 goals on the season. As a team, the Lakers lead the nation in assists and assists per game, led by a GLIAC-best eight from
Cecilia Steinwascher.

Michigan Tech comes to town looking to avenge their only home loss of the season, a 2-0 win by GVSU at Kearly Stadium on the opening weekend of GLIAC play. The Huskies (9-4, 6-3 GLIAC) are rolling, having won five of their last six games with the only defeat coming on the road against a nationally-ranked Ferris State side. Grace Shaw leads the team with eight goals Stephanie Yeager has three goals with a team-best five assists. They've allowed just 10 goals all season and have allowed just one goal in their last three matches.
Â
The Lakers showed a glimpse of how dominant their offense can be with an 8-0 drubbing of Davenport three weeks ago on senior night. The Lakers scored early and often, led by a first-half hat-trick from DeLoach to run away from the crosstown foe. They are 2-10-1 overall but are 1-2-1 in their last four matches. Haley Diekevers has been the main offensive focus for the Panthers, scoring six of the nine goals for the Panthers this season.
Â
With just five regular season games remaining, and three of their final four on the road, the Lakers look to sharpen into post-season form and it starts this week with a good test Friday in a surging Huskies team.
