ALLENDALE – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to begin their GLIAC schedule this weekend on the road in the Upper Peninsula. The Lakers will open conference play at No. 22 Northern Michigan on Friday, September 11^th at 3:00 PM and at Michigan Tech on Sunday, September 13^th at 12:00 PM.

GVSU ended their non-conference schedule last weekend in Minnesota with a 2-1 win against Bemidji State and a 1-0 defeat to Minnesota State. The Lakers enter conference play with a 2-1-1 record and are ranked fifth in the country by United Soccer Coaches. Through the first four games, GVSU has outshot their opponents 86-28 and 38-12 in shots on goal. The Lakers rank seventh in the country with 21.5 shots per game. GVSU has produced 18 corner kicks on the season while holding their opponents to 12 corner kicks. 
 
Junior defender Vesna Dennison and senior midfielder Sonya Mehta leads the Laker offense with two goals each for four points. Sophomore forward Ava Kozak has notched four points to start the season scoring one goal and dishing out two assists. Senior defender Ana Spaine and senior forward Lina Rea have both dished out two assists for two points. Sophomore goalkeeper has started all four games in goal for the Lakers making eight saves. Senior defender Acadia Murphy has played all 90 minutes in each game this season.
 
Northern Michigan enters conference play ranked number 22 in the country by United Soccer Coaches. The Wildcats are 3-0-1 on the season outscoring their opponents 8-4. Northern Michigan has a balanced attack on offense with seven different players finding the back of the net to start the season and nine players having recorded a point. Senior forward Isabella Lorens leads the Wildcats with two goals and three assists for seven points. Lorens scored the game-winning goal in their last game against Northwood and dished out two assists in the win against No. 16 St. Cloud State. Sophomore goalkeeper Carly Sides has started all four games in goal making 17 saves.
 
Michigan Tech is 0-4 to start the season and have been outscored 11-1. The Huskies fell last weekend 3-1 to Northwood and 3-0 to Cedarville. Sophomore midfielder Kenzie Dollison has scored the only goal for Michigan Tech this season. Graduate goalkeeper Bri Barrows leads the GLIAC with 27 saves and has started all four games in goal for the Huskies.
