ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field teams opened the season at home in the Bob Eubanks Open on Saturday, Jan. 16. The women collected seven NCAA Division II provisional qualifications while the men picked up one automatic qualification and 10 provisional marks.Â

Senior
Allie Ludge led the women in the mile with a time of 4:50.23, good for a provisional qualification and first place. Junior
Olivia Brian took first place in the 3,000m with a 9:48.52 provisional qualification, more than five seconds faster than the runner-up.Â
Nicole Sreenan picked up right where she left off last season, earning two first place finishes and provisional qualifications in the 60m (7.51) and 200m (24.11).Â

In the field, sophomore
Emma Richards collected a provisional qualification in the shot put (14.79m) while
Judith Essemiah (18.90m) and
Franesha Robinson-Mitchell (18.49m) picked up provisional qualifications in the weight throw. Senior
Angelica Floyd earned first place in the long jump with a hurdle of 5.49m.Â

The men swept the top-three spots in the mile, with
Caleb Futter (4:06.26),
Dennis Mbuta (4:09.15) and
Connor Schwartz (4:10.55) earning provisional qualifications. Redshirt senior
Isaac Harding did not disappoint in his Laker debut, finishing second in the 3,000m with a provisional qualification of 8:11.09. Junior
Tanner Chada followed his footsteps with a provisional time of 8:14.57.Â

Senior
Justin Scavarda wasted no time earning a spot at DII Nationals with an automatic qualification of 18.55m in the shot put and a provisional mark of 19.40m in the weight throw. Freshman
Myles Kerner (16.93m) and redshirt senior
Leon White (17.85m) nabbed provisional qualifications in the shot put and weight throw, respectively. In the high jump,
Elijah Kosiba and
Ryan Mount tied for first place with a provisional clear of 2.04m. Â
