Isaac Tavo & Shelby Ulven Named GLIAC Athletes of the Week

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State's throws squad dominated competition at this weekend's GVSU Early Meet and two are receiving conference recognition for their efforts. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has named Isaac Tavo and Shelby Ulven the men's and women's Outdoor Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Monday, April 6, as announced by the GLIAC today.

Tavo, a mid-year transfer from West Liberty, led men's discus at this weekend's Early Meet. The sophomore started off strong, throwing for a whopping 55.88m (183-4) to immediately take the lead. The season-best mark was just one inch shy of his personal-best throw (55.92m / 183-5) and ranks fourth across NCAA Division II.

Ulven threw hammer this weekend. The redshirt-senior threw for 58.27m (191-2) on her third throw of the day but led competition from the beginning with a 57.79m (189-7) mark. Through her six throws, she averaged 56.64m (185-10) per attempt to ultimately led her second-place teammate by more than one foot. Her season-best ranks her fourth in NCAA Division II.
