Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Grand Valley State Lakers split their two games on day one of their spring break trip to Florida; falling to Saint Anselm, 2-1, in the first game before a 6-2 win over the Wilmington Wildcats in game two on Sunday (March 1). The Lakers are now 3-3 on the season and are back in action Monday with two more games beginning at 10:00 AM.
 
Game one was a pitchers' duel until the very end. After five scoreless frames, Saint Anselm broke through with an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Rieger responded with a lead-off home run in the home half of the inning to tie the score.
 
Then, in the seventh, Saint Anselm began with a single and sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, a two-out single pushed across the game-winning run as the Lakers went 1-2-3 in their last chance in the seventh. Hannah Beatus (L, 2-1) suffered her first loss of the season; going the distance and allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out seven. Morgan Perry (W, 6-0) pitched a complete game for Saint Anselm.
 
The offense came alive in game two, starting with a three-run third inning. Joanna Cirrincione laced an RBI triple into the left-center gap to bring home the first run, then scored herself on a bunt single by Rieger. Two batters later, Nikoma Holmen roped a double into the left field corner to bring around another run.
 
Kaitlyn Lynch would score the first run of her collegiate career after an infield single and error in the fourth inning. After the Wildcats got on the board in their half of the fourth, Holmen smacked a homer over the left field fence, her second of the year, to give the Lakers a 5-1 lead. Holmen would score again in the sixth when a pickoff attempt went awry.
 
Ashley Platek (W, 1-2) got her first collegiate win after a complete game performance, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out nine. She also had a pair of hits at the plate, her first two knocks of her collegiate career.
