Mackenzie Lawler have announced the naming of the 2020 team captains. Junior

Anna Gritter,
Megan Yoshida and
Sarah Stagaard will lead the team in coach Lawler's second season as head coach.
"We are very excited to have Sarah, Megan, Anna, and Sophie as our captains for the 2020 season," said coach Lawler. "As a coaching staff we look forward to continuing their leadership development to help our team achieve our goal of a GLIAC Championship and post-season appearance."
As a returning team captain, Stagaard scored 40 goals and dished out five assists in her junior season. Stagaard controlled 37 draws, good for third on the team and 17
th best in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors.
Lawler on Stagaard – "Sarah comes back as a returning captain and has continued to grow into more of a vocal leader this year."
Yoshida tallied 12 points during the 2019 season, which included a career-high four goals in a Laker win over Davenport. Additionally, the Minnesota native recorded 17 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and four draw controls on defense.
Lawler on Yoshida – "Megan brings a consistent work ethic and discipline to our defensive unit."
Last season, Gritter was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team for her attributions to the Laker defense which owned the second-lowest goals against average in the conference. Individually, Gritter recorded 23 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers.
Lawler on Gritter – "Anna adds a positive energy to everything we do as a team."
Conroy comes off a 2019 sophomore campaign in which she scored 23 goals and totaled 24 assists. The Spring Lake native posted a multi-goal game on six different occasions and owns four games in which she accounted for three or more assists.
Lawler on Conroy – "As a junior captain, Sophie has a confidence in herself and knowledge of the game that will allow her to make an impact as a leader right away."
GVSU kicks off the 2020 season at Lake Erie on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
