Helped lead team to two state titles

09.20.2019

Grand Valley State women's lacrosse head coach Mackenzie Lawler was inducted into the Okemos High School Hall of Fame Thursday night (Sept. 19).  Lawler spent four years with the program from 2007-2010 and led the team to back-to-back state titles in her final two seasons.

As a senior, Lawler was named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and earned first-team all-state honors.  In the final game of her high school career, Lawler scored or assisted on 11 of Okemos' 20 goals and broke a record for most assists in a championship game with eight.  In total, Lawler scored 165 goals and dished out 181 assists as an Okemos Chief.

Lawler founded Michigan Elite, a premier youth lacrosse program, in 2011.  She serves as the administrator and head coach of the program which now amasses five teams in Okemos and two in Grand Rapids.

Lawler enters her second season at the helm of the women's lacrosse program.  Last year, she led the Lakers to a record of 14 wins and four losses and a GLIAC Tournament championship game appearance.
