Grand Valley State men's tennis competed in the Hope Invitational on Sept. 13-14 for their second match of the season.
Jack Geissler started the weekend off with a win over Danny Kroze of Hope, 6-2, 6-3.
DJ Colantone defeated his opponents, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2. Also posting singles wins for the Lakers in the A bracket were
Ignacio Morera-Lucas (6-0, 6-2),
Kushan Shah (6-3, 6-1),
Sean Miller (6-2, 6-1).
Alex Lescoulie (6-2, 6-0) and
Eric Zwemer (6-2, 6-2) both showed a strong performance in their singles matches.
Borja De La Fuente (6-4, 6-0; 6-0, 6-0),
Nicolas Welker (6-3, 6-0; 6-0, 6-0), and
Ryan Rhoades (6-3, 6-2; 6-1, 6-1) all defeated both of their opponents in two sets.
In doubles play, Colantone and Geissler (8-1; 8-7, 4-0; 5-8), Dausman and Matov (8-1; 8-2; 1-8) and Miller and Morera-Lucas (8-1; 8-4; 3-8) recorded two wins and one loss to complete the invitational. Lescoulie and Shah finished with one win, 8-2, and two losses, 6-8; 7-8, 0-6.
The team will compete in the ITA Regional Championships hosted by the GLIAC on Sept. 28-30 in Allendale.
