GVSU set to face Hillsdale in NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament

NCAA Tournament Information

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team returns to action Monday, May 13, in NCAA tournament play after nearly a month off from their last competition. The Lakers (21-4) are riding a six match win streak and will meet Hillsdale (16-2) at 10 a.m. in the NCAA Midwest Region II first-round match at the WSU Tennis Courts in Detroit, Mich.

The Lakers enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, while the Chargers are tagged as the No. 6 seed. The last time these teams met was in October of 2016, where GVSU came out on top 7-2. The winner of the match will face either the No. 2 Wayne State or No. 6 Walsh.

During dual matches, GVSU has posted an excellent record in singles as they have gone 110-30 and have tallied a 52-18 record in doubles. The Chargers, who are riding a 10 match win streak, play out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and were crowned the Regular Season and Tournament champions. So far this season, they have gone 71-15 in singles during dual matches and 37-11 in doubles.

Additionally, this is GVSU's 19th straight year advancing to NCAA postseason play, dating back to the 2000-01 campaign.
