GVSU defeats Ashland, 4-3, Friday afternoon

The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated the Ashland Eagles, 4-3, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home on Friday (April 5) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC, while the Eagles drop to 9-8 on the year and 2-2 in league play. GVSU's next match will be Saturday (April 6) as they welcome Wayne State, with first serve at 1 p.m.

Doubles Order: 1,3,2

Ashland scored the match's first point, after they won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Jack Geissler and Martin Matov fell 6-4, from the No. 2 spot, and Jack Dausman and Nicholas Urban also dropped a 6-4 decision from the No. 3 pairing. The Lakers did win from No. 1 singles as Sebastien Lescoulie and DJ Colantone won 6-3.

Singles Order: 5,4,1,2,3,6

Grand Valley State turned things around in singles action, as they won four out of the six matches. Lescoulie won from the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-2, while Dausman captured a 7-5, 6-4, win from No. 3 singles. Playing from No. 4 singles was Matov as he won 6-0, 6-2, while Urban also won 6-1, 6-0, from the No. 5 slot. Ashland scored two more points as Geissler dropped a 6-1, 6-4, decision from No. 2 singles, while Eric Zwemer fell in three sets by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 4-10.

Grand Valley State will be back in action tomorrow (April 6) as they welcome Wayne State, with first serve at 1 p.m.
