The Grand Valley State men's tennis team fell to Northwood in a third-place match during the GLIAC Tennis Tournament by a final score of 4-2 on Sunday (April 28) morning at the Greater Midland Tennis Complex in Midland, Mich. The Lakers are now 16-8 overall and will wait to see if they qualify for NCAA postseason play, as the selection show is schedule for Tuesday, May 7, on NCAA.com
Northwood scored the match's first point in doubles, with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 pairing. Playing from the No. 2 pairing was
Jack Geissler and
DJ Colantone, as the duo fell 6-4, while
Jack Dausman and
Nicholas Urban also dropped a 6-4 decision from No. 3 doubles. GVSU did however win from the No. 1 pairing after
Sebastien Lescoulie and
Martin Matov captured a 6-4 win.
In singles, the Lakers were unable find their groove as they added one more point to their score after Matov claimed a 6-4, 6-1, win from the No. 4 slot. Geissler was defeated in three sets by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, from the No. 2 spot, while Dausman also fell 6-2, 6-4, from No. 3 singles. Northwood scored its final two points from the No. 5 and No. 6 singles after Urban (No. 5; 6-4, 6-3) and
Eric Zwemer (No. 6; 6-3, 6-4) were both defeated.
