The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated Ferris State, 4-3, in a nail-biter at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club on Sunday (March 31) afternoon. This is the first time since April of 2009 that the Lakers have defeated the Bulldogs. Grand Valley State is now 13-5 on the year and 3-1 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State drops to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Doubles Order: 2, 1, 3
The teams started the match in doubles, as FSU scored the first point of the match after they won from the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings.
Sebastien Lescoulie and
DJ Colantone fell 6-2 from No. 1 doubles, while
Jack Geissler and
Martin Matov dropped a 6-3 decision from the No. 2 slot. GVSU did win from the No. 3 doubles position after
Jack Dausman and
Nicholas Urban won 6-2.

Singles Order: 1, 2, 3, 6, 5, 4
GVSU started its comeback as they tied things up at No. 1 singles after Lescoulie won 6-2, 6-1. FSU scored the next two points as they won from No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Geissler fell from the No. 2 position by a score of 6-2, 6-2, while Dausman dropped a 7-5, 6-4, decision from the No. 3 slot. The Lakers would scored their next three points and clinch the match on the final matchup as all three remaining matches sent to three sets.
Eric Zwemer captured a big win from No. 6 singles, as he won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 and closed the gap within one point. Playing from the No. 5 position was Urban, who fell in the first set 5-7, and then won the next two sets by a score of 6-4, 6-2. With the match tied 3-3, with only one contest to go, it all came down to No. 4 singles, as Matov dropped the first set 5-7, but then came back and won the next two sets 7-6 (2-0), 6-2, and clinched the win for the Lakers.

Grand Valley State will be back in action next weekend as they will host Ashland and Wayne State.
