The Grand Valley State women's tennis team played their final home match of the 2018-19 season and saw honored their five seniors as they won 6-1 on Sunday (Feb. 24). The Lakers are now 13-2 on the season while the Cavaliers hold a 5-5 record. Grand Valley State's six matches will be played in Florida from March 3, until March 7.
Grand Valley State started off strong, as they swept doubles and earned the important point. Playing out of the No. 1 pairing was
Madison Ballard and Marika Leko, as the pair won 6-2, while
Vera Griva and
Marily Canellopoulos captured a 7-4 (4-0) victory from the No. 2 doubles position.
Nicole Heiniger and
Livia Christman completed the sweep after they won 7-5 from the No. 3 slot.
In singles, the Lakers won five out of the six matches as the Cavaliers captured their only point from the No. 3 position, after Leko dropped a 7-6(4), 7-5 decision. Grivia continued her strong play as she won 6-1, 6-2, from the No. 1 singles slot, while Ballard also won 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 2 spot. The Lakers captured three more points as Canellopiulos won 6-0, 6-4, from No. 4 singles, Heinigier tallied a 7-5, 7-5, victory from the No. 5 spot and Christman won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, from the No. 6 singles position.
