The Grand Valley State women's tennis team resumed action on Thursday (Feb. 14) night as they hosted the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club and won 6-1. The Lakers are now 11-2 on the 2018-19 season while the Wildcats now hold a 16-2 record on the season.

In doubles play, the Wildcats would take the doubles point after they won two of out the three matches.Â
Madison Ballard and
Marija Leko won 6-0 from the No. 2 pairing, but the Wildcats would win from No. 1 and No. 3 positions to capture the point.
Vera Griva and
Marily Canellopoulos dropped a tough match from the No. 1 pairing by a score of 5-7, while
Livia Christman and
Nicole Heiniger also fell 5-7 from the No. 3 doubles position.

In singles, Grand Valley State made its comeback as they won their next six matches. Leko won from the No. 3 spot as she won in three sets by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6, while Griva won 6-1, 6-2, from the No. 2 slot. Playing from the No. 1 singles position was Ballard, who won in three sets after she dropped the first set 6-7(4), before coming back and in the second and third sets and won 6-2, 10-3. Canellepoulos captured a 7-5, 6-0 victory from the No. 4 slot, while Christman and Heiniger tallied two more points for the team as they won from the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Christman won 6-4, 6-0, while Heiniger captured a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Grand Valley State will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 16) as they host Indiana Tech at the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club with first serve starting at 6:30 p.m.
