The Grand Valley State men's tennis team finished its regular season on Sunday after they defeated Purdue Northwest, 9-0, in its final GLIAC matchup on the season. With the win the Lakers improved to 14-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while the Pride fell to 7-11 on the season and 1-7 against GLIAC competition.
GVSU started the match with a sweep in doubles play, as
Alex van de Steenoven and
Drew Coleman claimed a 9-7 victory from No. 1 doubles.
Sebastien Lescoulie and
DJ Colantone tallied an 8-2 win from the No. 2 pairing, as
Nicholas Urban and
Jack Geissler won 8-2 from the No. 3 spot.
In single competition, Lesoulie won 6-0, 6-2, from No. 1 singles, while Geissler added another point for the Lakers in a 6-2, 6-3, win from the No. 2 position. Playing from the No. 3 slot was Steenoven who came out on top by a score of 6-2, 6-3, as Urban won 6-2, 6-0, from No. 4 singles and
Eric Zwemer won 6-2, 6-2, from the No. 6 singles position. The Lakers were awarded a point from No. 5 singles, as its player pulled out due to injury after the first set; Colantone won the first set 6-2.
Grand Valley State's next match will be against Davenport in the 2018 GLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament, next weekend beginning on Friday, April 20. The Lakers are seeded as the No. 4 team, while the Panthers are tabbed as the No. 5 seed. GVSU and won the regular season matchup against the the Panthers, 5-4. The tournament will be held at the at the Greater Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan.
