The Grand Valley State baseball team (13-10, 2-2 GLIAC) will open the 2018 home portion of its schedule Thursday (March 28) afternoon with a GLIAC twinbill versus Tiffin (8-10, 2-2 GLIAC). First pitch for game one is 2 p.m., with game two set for 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. The Lakers' home opener will be the 24th game of the season.
First pitch for game one Thursday is set for 2 p.m. and it will be a 9-inning affair, with game two scheduled for seven innings. Friday will begin with a 7-inning contest at 1 p.m., followed by a 9-inning contest for game two.
"We are excited to be playing on our home field finally," said head coach
Jamie Detillion. "Playing in warm weather is great, however, it will be nice to be in our third base dugout."
Senior
Ryan Arnold, who is 4-0 with a 2.76 ERA, will get the start on the mound for the Lakers in game one, while
Josh D. Smith (2-1, 1.45 ERA) will get the ball in game two. Senior
Kyle Lawson has five saves in his nine appearances on the hill.
Sophomore 1B
Ryan Blake-Jones leads the squad offensively, hitting a team-high .427 with 35 hits and 28 RBI, while junior RF
Jacob Gleason hitting .391 with 34 hits and 24 RBI. Senior catcher
Austin LaDoux has steadied the Laker pitching staff and is hitting .375 with 30 hits and 14 RBI. Freshman CF
Nolan Anspaugh is turning in an impressive campaign with a .349 batting average and 22 hits.
