The Grand Valley State men's tennis team won its GLIAC matchup against Lake Superior State on Saturday evening, 8-1. With the win, GVSU improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while LSSU drops to 5-5 on the season, and 0-2 against conference foes.
Grand Valley State swept Lake Superior State to start things off in doubles competition.
Sebastien Lescoulie and
Alex van de Steenoven defeated Diego Penz and Ieuan Lister, 8-1, from No. 1 doubles, while
DJ Colantone and
Jack Geissler won 8-6, against Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama from the No. 2 pairing. The duo of
Drew Coleman and
Nicholas Urban tallied another point for GVSU as they won, 8-2, over Seth Pinnoo and Joe Gilman from No. 3 doubles.
The Lakers continued their dominance as they won five out six singles matches. #69-ranked
Sebastien Lescoulie dominated from the No. 1 position and won 6-1, 6-2, while Geissler added another point for GVSU from No. 2 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Playing from the No. 3 slot,
Alex van de Steenoven won 6-0, 6-1, as Urban won from the No. 4 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-4. LSSU claimed its only point of the contest, as Colantone fell in three sets. Colantone won the first set 6-2, but dropped the next two sets 6-3, 7-6, from No. 5 singles.
Eric Zwemer added another point for GVSU after he claimed a 6-3, 6-1, victory from the No. 6 singles slot.
Grand Valley State will be home again next week when they host Northwood on Friday (March 30), before heading up to Big Rapids, Mich., on Saturday (March 31) for a 12 p.m. matchup.
