ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated the Warriors of Wayne State on Saturday afternoon (4/8) by a score of 6-3. The victory pushes the Lakers to 15-6 on the season and 5-1 in GLIAC play.
The Laker men were able to win two close doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Out of the No. 1 spot was the duo of
Zach Phillips and Alex Van de Steenoven who took down Taylor Vane and Mats Westkamp by a score of 8-5. The duo of
Jack Heiniger and Sebastian Lescoulie also won their matchup against Clement Charriere and Griffin Mertz out of the No. 2 doubles spot by a score of 9-7.
In singles play, Sebastian Lescoulie was able to hold down the No. 1 position as he defeated Westkamp by a 6-4, 6-3 margin. Out of the No. 3 position was
Jack Geissler who took down Vane by a score of 1-6, 7-6 (6), 12-10 in a marathon of a match. Also winning their matches on the afternoon was Heiniger (6-2, 6-0) and
Nicholas Urban (6-1, 6-3).
The Lakers will be back in action tomorrow (5/8) at 2:00 PM, as they take on Northwood in their final home regular season match.
