BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State men's tennis team took on Ferris State on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Regional Finals after taking down Rockhurst 5-2 on Saturday. The Bulldogs were able to defeat the Lakers by a score of 5-1 to advance to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen.
In doubles, the Lakers' No. 1 duo of
Zach Phillips and
Alex van de Steenoven were able to grab a victory over Ferris State's Till von Winning and Steward Sell by a score of 8-3. Ferris State was able to take both of the other doubles matches. The Bulldogs won No. 2 doubles at 8-5 and No. 3 doubles at 8-3. In singles play, Ferris State took victories in the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions to seal the team victory.
The Lakers end their season at 20-8 after earning the number four seed in the Midwest region.
