TIFFIN, Ohio - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated Tiffin University on Friday, April 15 by a score of 6-3. The win pushes the Lakers to 17-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Lakers currently sit at second in the GLIAC and rank third in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region.
The Lakers were able to win all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 team lead into singles play. The duo of
Zach Phillips and Alex Van de Steenoven played out of the No. 1 spot and took down Luis Ludena and Toby Cutting by a score of 9-7. The Laker pair of Sebastian Lescoulie and
Jack Heiniger defeated Agustine Mangone and Elio Lezama by a 8-3 score out of the No. 2 spot. Playing out of the No. 3 position was
Jack Geissler and
Nicholas Urban who were able to defeat Andrew Isaac and Sorin Navrotchi by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, the Lakers and the Tiffin split the six matches to give GVSU the 6-3 victory. Playing out of the No. 1 spot was Lescoulie who defeated Ludena by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Geissler was able to supply the second win in singles play as he defeated Isaac by a 6-2, 7-5 margin. Earning the final win was Heiniger as he took down Cutting by a score of 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.
The Lakers will play their final match of the regular season in North Canton, Ohio as they take on the Cavaliers of Walsh at 10 A.M.
