CANTON, Ohio - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team earned a victory in their regular season finale against the Cavaliers of Walsh University. The win moves the Lakers to an 18-6 overall record and an 8-1 record in GLIAC play. The next time the Lakers take the courts will be in the GLIAC tournament which is scheduled for April 21-23, with the time and place to be determined.
In doubles competition, the duo of
Zach Phillips and Alex Van de Steenoven won their No. 1 doubles matchup against Ross Whittaker and Felix Zimmerman by a score of 9-7. Out of the No. 2 spot was
Jack Heiniger and Sebastian Lescoulie who took down Vasily Vidmanov and Rodrigo Garcia by an 8-2 margin. Wrapping up doubles play with a win was
Nicholas Urban and
Jack Geissler as they defeated Jonah Carter and Tim Bruin by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, Lescoulie earned a victory out of the No. 1 spot as he took down Vidmanov by a 6-0, 6-4 margin. Van de Steenoven was able to win his matchup against Garcia in the No. 4 spot by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Heiniger played out of the No. 5 doubles position where he defeated Heitor Agedas by a 6-1, 6-3 score. Also winning their singles match was Urban who took down Carter in a close 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 match.
The Lakers currently sit in second place in the GLIAC, trailing only Ferris State. As per a release Wednesday, April 12, the Lakers were ranked third in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region.
