The Grand Valley State women's tennis team (3-0 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) claimed a 7-2 GLIAC road victory over Ferris State Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers return to the GVSU Tennis Courts this weekend to take on Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 6) at 3:30 p.m., before hosting Lake Superior State on Saturday (Oct. 7) starting at 10 a.m.  

Grand Valley State and Ferris State first battled it out in doubles action to open the match. Alexa Sweeney and Aimee Moccia dropped an 8-4 decision at the No. 1 pairing, but the Lakers recovered and won the next two doubles matches. Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger claimed an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, followed by Abby Perkins and Livia Christman posting an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 pairing.   

The Lakers won five of six singles matches, first with Ballard who claimed a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles. Alexa Sweeney battled hard from the No. 2 spot, losing the first set 4-6, but made a comeback in the second set, 7-5, before falling in the third set 10-3. Moccia won a difficult match at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-4), followed by a GVSU sweep in the next three matches. Perkins played from the No. 4 singles spot and won 6-3, 6-1, Olivia Hanover won at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-2)  and Heiniger claimed a win from the No. 6 position (6-2, 6-0).
