BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Valley State men's tennis' season comes to a bitter end as the Lakers suffered a 5-3 defeat to Ferris State in the 2016 Midwest Regional Final at the FSU Racquet & Fitness Center.

The loss, their third this season to the No. 2 seed Bulldogs (23-4), puts the No. 3 seed Lakers final record at 17-8 as their season ends in the Midwest Region Final for the second consecutive season.

Grand Valley State fell behind 2-1 after winning only one match in doubles competition, although the combined score of the lost matches was 16-11.

Nicholas Urban won match three (8-6) to put GV on the board going into singles competition.

The Lakers took two matches to make it close against the Bulldogs, but it wasn't enough to upset Ferris State and punch Grand Valley State's ticket to their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.
Sebastien Lescoulie earned the win in the No. 3 match (6-4, 6-3), and Urban took the point in the No. 6 match (6-1, 6-4).

Zach Phillips took both of their matches to a third set, but unfortunately Steenoven lost the first match (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) and Phillips lost the second match (6-3, 4-6, 7-5).
